Magazine Article Analysis Two




The band in the article is a rock group. The magazine is target audience are fans and followers of the rock band ‘The Gaslight Anthem’. It’s aimed at them for the reason that the entire magazine is about rock music and artist. A majority of the audience may not be interested in this particular band but its fans and followers will defiantly be interested.

The colour scheme shows us, the audience, and a tranquil environment it relates to their calm rock n roll music. Theirs only one colour they use to make the text stand out, that colour is red. The colour red makes it easier for the audience to read the key points in the article. The double spread page is laid out with the main picture of the band. The picture dominates over both pages because it’s more interesting because the other page is just text. The band is presented to the audience in a calmer, tranquil environment, not what you will expect from a rock ‘n’ Band. They dress like ordinary people and their location that the picture was taken is not up to the rock n roll standards. This tells the audience that this band does not care about the glamour and the money; they just like to produce music and share it with their fans.

The article aims at audiences with prior knowledge and understanding so that they can relate, not judge to how they portray themselves. A majority of the audience will expect them to be fast not slow, but the Band has its own style.

Magazine Article Analysis




The article is aimed at young urban followers of Hip Hop and R&B culture. The Article Is aimed at young followers of Hip Hop and R&B because it’s an article about the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan, some teenagers look up to him as an idol. The article uses I think the magazine is aimed at teenagers from the age of fifteen and onwards because the article uses swear words.

The article uses informal language, for example, ‘I’ma tells you one thing: I’ma about to do the greatest shit I ever done, lyrically and musically’’. His phrases create humour because the article is called pure genius and he is uses phrases like ‘I’ma’. Also they are numerous of inappropriate words mentioned in this article such as s**t and also the other swear word F**k. These word words are too inappropriate for children. Parents would not want their young children to read magazine articles which contains swear words for their children to understand. So this tells the audience that this magazine is aimed at people

The colours of the double page spread are straight forward and also match the cloths of the rapper which are, white, (his T-Shirt) Black (his trousers) and red (his trainers). The questions are coloured red and the response from the artist is in black. This lets the audience know that the text coloured in red are questions from the interviewer and the text coloured in black is the artist’s response. The title of the article is in black so that it can stand out from the white background.

The text is used is readable for the audience, its simple and basic. They use different colours to highlight the questions and other important texts in the article. The questions in the article are bold; they made it bold so that it will be easier for the audience to read.

How much of the pages are taken up by images and how much by text? The double paged article is laid out with one main image of the artist, and the other half is filled with questions and answers about Gary (GZA/Genius) Grice.

The magazine addresses to the audience as an informed intelligent fan. The magazine is informing the audience that the leader of the wu-tang clan deserves more respect because the magazine is addressing him as one of the best emcee.
