Vibe Front Cover Analysis



Vibe Magazine is a urban music magazine founded by Quincy Jones in the 1993. Vibe enjoyed, significant success in the late 90s and early part of this decade as Hip Hop and R&B became more mainstream.

A magazine front cover is aimed to be attractive and eye catching towards the audience, persuading them to buy and read the magazine. Typical magazine front covers follow a 2/3rd image page rule, which is followed by a large heading and noticeable sell lines. The magazine Vibe follows the rule, with the front cover image taking up 2/3rd of the page, the large heading and the noticeable Sell lines.

The title Vibe is Bold and in Capitals, the colour makes it eye catching and able to notice the magazine from quite a distance.

The Main image of Vibe Is the popular R&B singer Ciara. They portrayed Ciara as a new person, new hairstyle, new dress code and a new body. Her main image reflects on the sell line. ‘New Body, No Bow Wow’. Her pose shows off her new curves, it also makes her bum look big which is often admired by the urban audience. Her seems like it could be ripped off, this will catch the audience’s eye and convince them to buy it.

The magazine is covered in two types of contrasting colours, dark blue and light blue, yellow and red, and green and white. Light blue is around Ciara’s body, which highlights her curve’s, light blue represents health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness. Health could be one of the factors because of her ‘New Body’. And dark blue surrounds the rest of the front cover; dark blue represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness. Informing the audience that she is finished with the rapper Bow Wow and is now serious with her career. The title colour is Yellow, which is easy to spot and it also stands out from the blue background. The colours red and white also stand out.

The lighting highlights her curves and her flat stomach; this informs the audience that she has worked hard to obtain this figure. The lighting also highlights the back of her hair making it golden brown. This will catch the attention of the female audience because they may want to know how she got her hair that way.

The strap line located on top of the title is ‘Young Jeezy keeps it raw’. Its located on top of the magazine so the audience can notice it. the strap line is written in baby blue and also in capitals. The audience will be able to notice it because it is not the same blue as the background. Also the information suggest that the Rapper Young Jeezy is a rebel and refuses to keep his music les explicit, this will instantly create curiosity persuading the audience to buy it to find out what exactly the magazine meant.

The lead story is ‘New Music, New Body, No Bow Wow’ this informs the audience that Ciara Career is going to keep rising with her ne music and dance moves. Also ‘New Body’ was big and bolder than the rest of the lead story. This will make the audience persuaded to buy the magazine because more pictures of Ciara could be inside. In addition ‘No Bow Wow’ would attract the audience of all caliber because every one likes Gossip, and the fact that Ciara and Bow Wow broke up the audience will like to know what was the reasons. Bow Wow and Ciara are admired by teenagers perhaps because of the fact that their teenagers themselves. Furthermore the sell line ‘ Ciara don’t you wish your girlfriend was hot like me’ this informs the audience that she is more confident with herself. ‘Hot Like Me’ stood out because it was bigger and Yellow, informing the audience that she is a changed person. The colour Yellow represents Joy, making the audience curious, could she be joyful because she broke up with Bow Wow.
